Dan Peterson, born on July 16, 1897, in Film, Sweden, embarked on a journey that led him from his native Sweden to the United States, eventually settling in Ashland, Wisconsin, nestled on the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior. Emigrating on October 6, 1923, Pettersson arrived in New York with his nyckelharpa from Sweden, and moved in with his uncle, Anders P. Peterson.
Dan Peterson found employment at the General Hospital in Ashland, Wisconsin, and there are indications that he also worked in Duluth, Minnesota, at some point. However, Peterson's life was multifaceted, extending beyond manual labor. He was also a musician deeply connected to his Swedish heritage. His nyckelharpa was crafted by the renowned builder Jonas Spets, and was purchased from nyckelharpa legend Justus Gille for 12 SEK, approximately $1 US dollar. |
